Hop Farm Festival

Its festival number 3 in Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair social calendar and we'll be heading over to the beautiful Kent countryside for the Hop Farm Festival. With a line-up to rival this years Glastonbury and a very laid back atmosphere this is one festival we've been wishing the days away for (aside from Vintage at Goodwood of course!).

So, we'll be donning our wayfarers a la Bob Dylan

Flicking our fair as we sing all the words with Blondie

And maybe even channel a few victory rolls and tight tops whilst we bop around to Imelda May

The full main stage line up looks like this:

FRI 2 JULY
VAN MORRISON
BLONDIE
DR JOHN
AND THE
LOWER 911
LOS LOBOS
IMELDA MAY
DAMIEN DEMPSEY

SAT 3 JULY
BOB DYLAN
RAY DAVIES
MUMFORD & SONS
SEASICK STEVE
PETER DOHERTY
LAURA MARLING
JOHNNY FLYNN
THE MAGIC NUMBERS
FOY VANCE

With temperatures set to peak at 29 degrees this weekend we'll be snapping away at festival goers to see how they keep cool in the festival sun.

The Libertarian

This post is about one of our stallholders Jayne Elwell aka The Libertarian. She is a milliner and accessory making extraordinaire. I fell in love with her creation for this years Ascot… yes those are two carefully crafted magpies perched on her head! Topping her monochrome look off to perfection. Two for joy!

We also love Jayne as her whole Ascot outfit came from Judy's Affordable Vintage Fair. She say's 'I was very happy to be wearing vintage because my friends got their outfits from the high street and both spotted 7 people wearing their identical dresses.'

'I purposely chose to wear full vintage because Ascot is so excessive and expensive. There are meals you can have for £1000 per head, which makes me feel sick! So I wanted to prove you can recycle, be ethical, spend little money and still pull a good outfit together.' Here, here!

Jayne is working on three exciting new collections at the moment including a reworked vintage collection, a miniature collection and a fantasia collection which includes very crazy imaginative hats she say's 'think Mr Whippy and Grand Piano's!' She is also building up some fabulous stock for Vintage At Goodwood. As well as all this Jayne has managed to find time to set up the brand new blog www.ahataday.blog.com where she will add a new hat everyday sourced from all over the world because she believes hats are an important part of our heritage and its time they were appreciated and adorned as many heads as they did in the 1950's.

Here are some of The Libertarian's vintage inspired hat designs...

Vintage handbags part 2

I thought it was about time I showed another selection of my handbag collection. So, this bunch of rather nice vintage bags is my favourite haul. I've put little descriptions under each one..

This black leather handbag with silver clasp is one of my favourites, its super strong and large enough to fit all kinds of 'life rubbish' in. I picked it up a few years ago at one of my favourite antique fairs in Lincolnshire http://www.asfairs.com/ . The lady who sold it to me had just brought it over from france and we think it dates back to the 1930s.

This is my favourite 1950s basket bag with cream leather lid. It makes me want to wear flower print dresses and go for long walks through fields. Unfortunately my hayfever gets in the way of those long walks but it is still well loved and used for lunch dates and weekends away.

So, these bags are not technically vintage but they are lovingly hand made by my friend, stall holder and designer Karina Hesketh. Karina is one of the most talented bag designer makers in this country. each one is hand made using the best leather money can buy, infact both of these bags are made from vintage leather from Mulberry. They have vintage fastenings and are all fully lined in leather. I have 5 of her bags but do hope to up the number to 6 when I see her at our Newcastle and Durham vintage fairs. If you want to own one of Karina's bags then visit her website

In between festivals and our huge task of filling all the vintage market stalls for Vintage at Goodwood I thought I'd take a moment to photograph a selection of the rather large vintage and vintage inspired bag collection I've been squirrelling for the past few years.

So here goes, a selection of my designer vintage bag collection lovingly handed down to me by my mum's friend's mother in 2003. Thanks Stephy!

Beach Break Days 2 & 3

So it has taken me 4 days to recover from our little trip to Wales. We only have two weeks at home until our next jaunt to the Hop Farm Festival. I am very much looking forward to seeing the likes of Bob Dylan, Blondie, Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling! It's my perfect line up! Anyhoo these are the last of our Beach Break Live festival snaps…

This English Rose popped into our vintage tent and gave me some more festival headwear inspiration. The pretty ribbon bow in her hair is sooo cute!

This is our Beach Break Live vintage tent regular who bought her entire outfit over the course of the festival! She put together a beautiful boho look.

And finally we were blown away by Kitty, Daisy and Lewis' 50's style. We've been listening to their vintage tunes in the car for weeks, it was great to see them in the flesh and I want Daisy's dress!

Beach Break Day One

Hwyl from Wales! The sun is shining on our first day at Beach Break Live Festival. But there is no time to catch some rays as our stallholders have worked like busy bee's to fill our marquee with the finest vintage around. There are lots of  revellers managing to look chic whilst partying hard.

I was very impressed with this lovely ladies headwear. Feathers are definitely taking over daisies in the festival style stakes. I'm already planning my own feathery flourish for our next festival. Come back tomorrow for more on our Welsh adventure.

A Prairie Dress Please.

Since we had 'the heat wave' I have realised how little summer clothing I own. I really need to update my wardrobe, at the moment it all seems to be black velvet. While I was trawling through Etsy today I found some super pretty prairie dresses, I need one in my life! I can just see the beautiful one above teamed with some jesus sandals a la Chloe. I love this pic below from the Spring 2010 lookbook, classic Chloe.

I'll hopefully be channeling my english rose look pretty soon and
I might even add a straw hat to shade my head like this one (also Etsy)...

Vintage at Tiffany's

Since 1837 Tiffany's have been supplying the world with their exquisite jewellery and pioneering designs. Next week as part of the Bond Street Culture and Heritage week they are hosting the exhibition 'American Glamour 1930s-1950s: Jewellery From The Tiffany & Co Archives'. It proves to be an excellent opportunity for normal folk to dip into the tiffany archives. There will be some beautiful jewels to stare longingly at.

When I first saw the article in Stylist magazine I began day dreaming about being Holly Golightly in Breakfast At Tiffany's (it doesn't take a lot!). Ahhh Tiffany's.
